Your child will have a schedule each day. We start the day with what we call I and E time. (intervention and enrichment) and move right into Reader's Workshop from 8:20-9:40. After reading we have 20 minutes of Social Studies. From 10:00 to 10:30 we go to recess. Lunch is from 10:30 to 11:00. We take a quick bathroom break and have phonics (OLC) from 11:00 to 11:30. After OLC we move into Writer's Workshop. Then we are off to Specials (P.E., music, art, flex fitness/health). After specials we come back to class for a working snack and Math Workshop. Directly after math is science.
Things to remember....
Please always send your child to school with a backpack. (At the start of the year I will put a tag on the backpack indicating how your child goes home. Please do not remove this tag.) Your child will also have a daily take home folder. This folder will have information about your child's day and any pertinent school communication will also be in their daily take home folder. Please check it and return it back to school each day. Guided reading will start going home after parent conferences in October. Your child should read his/her book at night a few times a week and return the guided reading every Friday. These books are not meant to be challenging, rather they are to build confidence, stamina and fluency.
Please also include in your child’s backpack a complete change of clothes, including socks! Don't forget a healthy snack for that day and please label everything! (milk or juice is not allowed at snack time nor are any snacks that require a spoon) Thank you for understanding.
*Recess.....We go outside if the temperature in under 94 and over 34. We do not go out in rain or snow. Please remember to dress your child appropriately. I recommend putting your child's name on the inside of their coat/jacket.
